The challenge

Stewarts Oil delivers kerosene and gas oil in Ireland. Customers want a price before they order, and prices change, so quotes have to come from the live pricing system.

The existing calculator depended on an old SOAP web service that was being replaced, and the switch to the new REST API could not disrupt customers.

What we built

Quote by litres or by price

Customers enter the litres they need or the amount they want to spend and get a quote straight away.

Live pricing with VAT

Prices come from the live system through the REST API, with VAT calculated on the quote.

Delivery-area checks

Eircode validation and a service-area check, plus a map of the areas Stewarts Oil delivers to.

Order from the quote

Customers, including guests, can place the order directly from their quote.

SOAP to REST migration

Moved from the legacy SOAP service to the new JSON API without changing how the calculator looks or works for customers.

How it works

  1. Enter the EircodeThe calculator checks the address is in the delivery area.
  2. Choose litres or spendThe customer picks the product and quantity.
  3. Get the priceA live quote with VAT comes back from the API.
  4. OrderThe order is submitted straight from the quote.
